About this piece
This is a digital download. You get a printable PDF. Nothing ships, and no wood or hardware is included.
These are the plans for the porch post we build in our shop in Acworth, Georgia. A freestanding post for your wreaths, door hangers and seasonal decor. Now you can build your own.
What you get
A 7-page PDF, letter size, ready to print:
- Materials and shopping list with store SKUs
- Tools we use, and tools you could use
- Cut list for every part
- Dimensioned drawing of each part
- Assembly drawings for all 3 toppers
- 13-step build process, with the tools for each step
- Overall dimensions sheet
What you'll build
A 45" cedar 4x4 post on a two-layer 11-1/4" square base, with your choice of three toppers:
- Solar light: 48-1/2" tall
- Pointy finial: 54" tall
- Ball finial: 54-1/8" tall
One 8-foot cedar 4x4 makes 2 posts.
Tools we use
Planer, drum sander, router, chop saw, drill and driver.
Tools you could use
You don't need all of that. If you don't have a planer or drum sander, you can sand by hand or with an orbital sander. It takes longer, but it works. No chop saw? A circular saw and speed square will do. The plans list a simpler option for each job.
How it works
1. Buy the plans.
2. Download the PDF.
3. Print it and start building.
You buy the lumber, finial or solar cap, stain and hardware at your local store.
Personal use only
Build it for your own home, or as a gift. Don't make it to sell. Don't copy, share or resell these plans.
